A Carnival? What?

Over the weekend Andrew and I were in a funk. You know that way? You just feel like you NEED to do something different... but you don't know what and you're uninspired. That was us. Fox & Owl uninspired. It's not a good way to be. So we talked with my Dad and he was feeling the same way so we went to dinner on Main Street and there was a street fair happening! That was sooo entertaining. We watched people dance and sang along with the band while we waited for our table.

I think it's super rad that our town does street fairs but let's face it... they're basically there for the tourists because no local is going to get out and bust a move in front of everyone they know. Anyone that says retired Floridians don't dance is a liar. They do. And they do it.... awkward 80's style. They can shake their tail feathers with the best of them.

After dinner we went to a neighboring town to a Carnival. Wait, what?

A carnival?

It was super fun! We got there pretty late and we enjoyed a funnel cake made by big burly tattooed men in patriotic aprons - not joking - found some of our family there (which was awesome), and watched kids enjoy the rides!

Yes, we took pictures ;-)

See? Big burly tattooed men... with powdered sugar!
That funnel cake was probably one of the best ones I've ever had! We didn't ride any rides but I was soo stoked when I saw they had Swings! The Swings and Tilt-A-Whirl are my two absolute favorite rides at a park or carny. Andrew likes the Ferris Wheel and Carousel. I HATE the Ferris Wheel because any time I rode it I was always with some jerk that would rock the car when we were stuck at the top. So I'm jaded... but Andrew thinks he can fix it. I wish him luck. How rad is the giraffe on the carousel by the way? If we had ridden it that would have been my choice :] What are some of your favorite treats and rides at a small town carny?

Happy Tuesday!

10 Things You Didn't Know

The lovely Nadine - she's the cutest thing - tagged me to be part of the 10 facts about yourself that has been circulating around the blogesphere recently! So I'm here to join in on the fun and share 10 random things about myself that you didn't know and might find interesting!

1. I like guns. Meaning, I grew up in Western North Carolina and my dad, who is like a gun aficionado, taught me the ins and outs of all kinds of guns. Through my experience I've learned that I don't like a GLOCK model...at all but, a revolver makes me happy in my heart. I'd rather have a revolver than anything else.

2. For those of you just tuning in, I have never had a dog but I've always wanted one. Within the last year I have narrowed it town to a bluetick. Mainly because they're in my favorite dog genre, hound, and because of their howl. Just sayin'.

3. I like my meat medium rare. Unless it's made at home and then I like it rare. The more blood, the better. Sometimes, just slap it on and get it warm and bring it to me. Sorry if that grosses you out.

4. I enjoy reading things by T.S. Elliot, G.K. Chesterton, C.S. Lewis - apparently I like guys with their first two initials being noted - Chambers, Keats, Wordsworth... the list continues.

5. I'd rather listen to anything on vinyl. Actually, I like anything more if it's from the 60's. Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era.

6. I was anti-marriage. *GASP* Yes, I know. But, I was. I was at a point in my life where I wasn't willing to give another guy a chance. It was me and my Abba and that was going to be it for a while. Let's just say it, I was terrified. And after reconnecting with Andrew I was even MORE terrified. It was nuts. But, sometimes you have to look beyond your own fears in order to stop being blind.

7. Buddy Christ makes me laugh. Wah wah or, more effectively, ha ha!

8. Daisies and buttercups are two of my favorite flowers. Somehow I gravitate toward weeds, I find beauty in things that other folks disregard as trash or worthless. Oh, and trees. I love trees.

9. I dig words like vernacular, paraphernalia, jargon, discombobulated, etc. But, I can't spell. At all.

10. Okay okay, you know this one but, Andrew Elliott Horton + Shannon Suzanne Horton = Love.

Huzzah! Now I'm supposed to tag a few folks but, I'd rather leave it up to you. If you join in please leave a link below so I can read and comment on yours! Exciteddd!

Happy Friday Evening! We are going on a double date with our couple crush. Pretty pumped on it :]

The Farm Woke Me This Morning

We had a FABULOUS weekend! So fabulous that Andrew and I stayed up MUCH later than we actually intended last night.

Since he's started this new job (it's an hour away) he gets up super early. Usually I just sleep while he's getting ready and he'll come and kiss me goodbye - he's like, way sweet - and I just pass back out until 9 or so. Since I'm still riding the great weekend high I actually woke up before him. To a rooster.

Wait...? What?

Yes. A rooster.

It sounds like it's coming from a few mountain ranges away and I swear every time I hear it I picture this little gangly creature that's about 2 inches tall trying it's hardest to be cool and wake every one up. It's a noble job to be sure, but this little thing in my mind just isn't going to cut it. So as I'm laying there this morning I got tickled. So I'm giggling more and more every time I hear it crow and then I hear this random dog start barking.

Really?

I've never heard this dog bark before, our neighbor has hounds (heaven when the blue tick howls) but this wasn't a hound. And yet, there it was barking in between crows. This added another hilarious image to the mix and then....

A man (presumably our neighbor) starts grumbling and yelling at this dog to shut up. Can we talk about how all of this is happening at about 5am? So I was effectively woken up by the farm and I'm not gonna lie, I didn't hate it.

Maybe my little rooster could use one of these? :]

Happy Monday, indeed!

Skype with Nathan

Even though my brother and I live in the same town it seems like we rarely get to see each other. So when he works nights (since I stay up late and create) we skype and play hangman or checkers or whatever. Nathan is a little really ridiculous pretty much all the time, right? I wanted to share with you some of the snap shots I grabbed during one conversation last week! These make me laugh so hard every time I look at them!

He's actually a pretty good looking guy, I promise!
Happy Tuesday!

Can We Talk About It?

My amazing friend, Marlee, shared this with me yesterday and it was too amazing not to pass on to you lovely kids! I think these are crocheted hats - complete with beard and mustache. Honestly? How could you resist? Personally, I'd like a pink one ;-)

The gray one makes me pretty happy too...

Regional Dialect!

So I've been seeing a lot of kids doing this regional dialect video and thought it would be fun to join in! Andrew and I are located in Western NC - basically we're mountain folks. Since people from our area are usually classified as "red necks" we decided to try the regional dialect challenge. Now, please forgive the video quality, I don't think my poor computer was up for much this evening. So, if you can, just bear with it!

Say these words:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

Now answer these questions:
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

Thanks for watching and if you decide to do this too then please leave a link in my comments section, I'd love to watch yours too!!

A Silly Moment

So, I had to share this super silly moment with you guys. We have a product shoot coming up - so fun - and we need models for it. I asked my sister to be a model on Facebook and hadn't heard from her so Andrew and I decided to make a video for her, you know, to ask her if she'd be interested. Enjoy!
