The Mind of a 14 Year Old Girl

I walked into my sister's room last night (we were visiting my parent's for dinner) and she handed me a piece of paper and announced that she was proud of what she had written in English class. When I took it I really wasn't sure of what I was going to be reading. I was most pleasantly surprised to read what she had written and how she really captured the spirit of her thoughts through her words. Not only that but, it was also extremely exciting to get a peek into her brain and how her minds works. She's been dealing with some pretty ugly middle school drama (we all know how girls can be) and this is the beauty that comes out of it. A gift.

I am me

In all the world there is on one else exactly like me. Everything that comes out of me is authentically mine because I choose it - I own everything about me, my body, my feelings, my mouth, my voices and all my actions. Whether they be to others or to myself - I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears - I own all of my triumphs and successes, all my failures and mistakes because I own all of me. I can become intimately acquainted with me, by so doing I can love me and be friendly with me in all my parts - I know there are aspects that I do not know - But as long as I am friendly and loving to myself I can courageously and hopefully look for solutions to the puzzles and for ways to find out more about me - However, I look and sound whatever I say and do and whatever I think and feel at a given moment in time is authentically me - If later some parts of how I looked, sounded, thought, and felt turn out to t be unfitting I can discard that which is unfitting, keep the rest and invent something new for that I discarded. I can see, hear, feel, think say, and do. I have the tools to survive, to be close to others to be productive and to make sense and order out of the world of people and things outside of me - I own me and therefore I can engineer me - I am me and

I am okay

How many of us can draw inspiration from those words? I'm amazed at what younger people can teach us, how their innocence can bring us back to a place of wisdom. Thanks for sharing this, Kelly. I'm proud of who you are becoming. You're not too bad, you know, for a little sister ;-)

Love it! Although, I don't miss those middle school days at all. Or high school. Or college, for that matter!
