Monday Blues | Hog Hunter Style

Oh friends. I'm late on this one because I've been hunting around for a video to share with you. Andrew and I watch this show religiously. I'm not even joking. I have a few shows I like to watch - it's like painting your nails, you do it for you - these shows are the same thing. So I like to watch Desperate Housewives, Private Practice, Storage Wars and American Hoggers.

If you follow me on twitter Storage Wars isn't a surprise to you. And I'm sure some of you read down that list like yes, yes, ...okay, WHAT?!

Have I mentioned that I grew up hunting? Cause I did. Now, I've never taken anything. I don't pull the trigger but I'll go and enjoy the process, help skin it, cut it up and cook it and of course EAT IT.

That brings me to American Hoggers. I've never been to Texas. I didn't know that people in TX talk like people in NC. Apparently they do. And apparently they need subtitles for the rest of the world like folks in my neck of the woods. It's a show based on a family (Dad and two kids) that hunt boars for a living. In TX boars are pests on farms and orchards. They tear the world up, they're pigs and they're not safe in any shape fashion or form. So these farmers call in this family to eradicate the problem. The dad, Jerry Dean, is the most hilarious man (apart from my dad) that I've ever seen. They literally give him subtitles on the show so you can understand what he's saying. In my house we don't need them but I think it's a nice touch for the rest of the country. He reminds me of my dad in so many ways it's not even funny. My dad has the same beard, build and blue eyes. He also loves his kids, his family, his animals, and hunting better than anything. You can see why I'm in love with this show. Plus, Jerry Dean has some of the best phrases I've ever heard. Including:

I've been hunting hogs since Moby Dick was a sardine
It's like trying to cut a hay field with a lawn mower
I hate hot weather like the Pope hates the Devil
Hogs like to eat anything. They’ll eat baby sheep, baby goats. They’ll eat ‘em just like popcorn
He’s (wild boar in a junkyard) liable to be lying up in there but hell he could be sitting in the front seat of a Cadillac too
When I get to Heaven I’m going to have one hell of a pack of dogs
You ever hear of hog heaven? Who you think put em’ there?

I laughed out loud while I typed those quotes. I've snagged a quick video for you to watch below. If you've never seen it, you should. It comes on A & E, Wednesdays at 10 pm. And, here is a link to one of my favorite episodes, for your viewing pleasure:
