Royal Wedding | But No, Really

I'm not a huge OH MY WORD THEY'RE GETTING MARRIED kind of kid. I love true love (as I live it with Andrew, yeah... kind of a puke thing to say but I do). I love Disney movies and I adore the idea of being a princess but only in the sense that is in the Disney ideal. Basically be pretty and singing a lot with lovely dresses with pretty crowns and tiaras with my handsome Prince... minus all of the work.

That being said, I love the UK. I'm also a closet history nerd. When my mom and I went to Europe I fell in love with everything about it. From the architecture to the culture and accents... ahhh. I came back from the trip feeling magical. Some of that I suppose was the wonder of being exposed to something so new and grand but, I think a lot of was from the amount of history that I could relate to (given classes and such).

But, I'm one of those kids. I'm the one driving her Husband (who graciously watches with me) crazy with wedding mania only to get the nuggets of the real deal. Not the pomp and circumstance but the real story and the historical value of the event. So rad. Given that I love the culture I wanted to share some of my favorite British with you.

*side story*
[When we were in London I was talking with a local and he gave me a disgruntled look and asked me to speak English. I looked at him, bewildered, and said, "I am!" and he said, "No, you're speaking American". Not. Even. Joking.]

Now, on to the language! Here is the "key"
British
American

Take the mickey out of them

A Pint
A beer
You're doing my head in
You're pissing me off
Don't give a toss

Bob's your Uncle
That's It!
Box your ears
Slap you
Cheeky
Naughty/Flippant/Mischievous
Nicked
Stealing
Daft
Stupid/Airhead
Cuppa
Cup of tea or coffee

That is a sufficient list, and most of them I use in my daily vernacular. And so here comes the inevitable question: How many of you will be up to watch the wedding? Frankly I'm up with Andrew around 5 or so anyways, so I'll be awake making him coffee and will settle on the couch to watch with my own cuppa (eh, eh, you like that use of British??) to check out the festivities!
 Happy Friday!
